What You Should Know Before You Buy Make up

What is Bismuth?

Bismuth (atomic number: 83, element symbol: Bi) is a naturally occurring element that is used primarily in the manufacture of fusible alloys, low-melting solders, fishing anchors and shotgun pellets. It is also commonly found in many cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. In the United States, it is a by-product often produced during the smelting of copper and lead.
Companies use this in their cosmetics because it is cheap to buy and is an inexpensive filler. It does have binding qualities, so the makeup will "stick" to your skin, so to speak. There are other products that are just as effective at adhesion, and are better for your skin. In small doses, it is not considered to be dangerous to humans. Yet, in large doses it can kill you. Go figure! It is known to cause itchy skin, clogged pores and respiratory issues for some people.
